Dear Brothers and Sisters:
I have been praying that my sharing with you this morning will be used by the Lord to bring you the same peace which I myself have experienced during these last few months.
Although this announcement is based upon my own personal conviction, I have shared it first with our Church Board. I am very grateful for their wisdom, advice and understanding.
I have decided to accept an invitation to become the Senior Pastor of the Chinese Baptist Church of Central Orange County in Irvine, California.
The timing of the development of this decision did not happen the way I expected. Humanly speaking, it would have been better if the invitation came a little later, as the timing may seem awkward to some of you, given Pastor Herring's recent arrival to serve amongst us. However, I shared my decision and reasons with Pastor Herring and the Church Board as early as I could following the Chinese Baptist Church's formal invitation to me, and I thank them for their understanding and support. We agreed that though my decision would be a surprise to many of you and may even be unsettling to some, it would be best that we inform you the congregation of this matter today.
For almost ten years now, I have enjoyed serving with our church. I love you all. I love Rochester's environment. I love doing what I have been doing as a servant of the Lord.
My wife Eleanor feels the same way too. However, many of you know that her health has become a serious concern for us and our two children recently. For the last two years since she has been diagnosed with a severe case of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Eleanor has been increasingly experiencing more pain and discomfort. It has become more difficult for her to move around especially when the weather gets cold. We have been seeking and waiting on the Lord for His help and His guidance. Now the Lord has opened the door for us to move back to a warmer climate. After much prayerful consideration, we believe that this is the right thing to do.
My wife and I have indulged ourselves in the love which brothers and sisters in RCCC and RCCCW have poured on us. We feel deeply indebted to you. May the Lord bless and reward you!
Let me assure you that I will work closely with Pastor Herring and the Church Board through out the transition period. Provided that everything works out smoothly, I have agreed to start serving at the other church on July 1, 2007. This is a step of faith and I have to trust in the Lord wholeheartedly. Please do pray for me that I will be forever faithful to the Lord. My wife and I will be more than happy to share with each and every one of you during the next few months. Please feel free to talk with us. Thank you very much!
